Adeline de Monseignat: Playscape

Playscape is an immersive sculptural installation by Mexico based artist Adeline de Monseignat, where the ground itself seems to breathe; rising into large, pebble-covered forms that resemble giant creatures mid-motion. These anthropomorphic sculptures emerge from a sacred white landscape, echoing the shapes and gestures of children at play: crouching, crawling, tumbling, testing the world around them.

 

Born from direct observation, Playscape reflects a deep fascination with the physical intelligence of toddlers; how they move, jump, touch, throw, and explore with relentless curiosity. Play, here, is not merely whimsical. It is pure, instinctive, and elemental. Monseignat reveals how these created spaces, designed for children, leave their mark on adults too, evoking memories, unlocking imagination, and surfacing dormant urges to move, feel, and wonder. The sculptures - giant pebble creatures, evoke a magnified world, one in which we become tiny again, rediscovering a sense of scale, awe, and vulnerability. 

 

Monseignat sees her studio as her own playground - an arena for experimentation, intuition, and transformation.
